The Orchid: Clinging to the hope that Spring is on the way!

Everyone that knows me, knows that I don’t really like winter.  In fact, I sort of hibernate each year at even the thought of Indiana gray. Don’t get me wrong, I actually love Indiana…I love the seasons (well 3 of them) and really can’t imagine living someplace where the leaves don’t change.  This year, I feel like my hibernation has reached a peak and a lot of this is probably due to the fact that I have chosen to take January and February off with our new baby.  But as February rolls to an end…I am starting to feel like there is an end in sight…SPRING is on the way!!! Brian brought me an orchid a few weeks ago to cheer me and every time I get a little gloomy I have it to remind me that soon I will be outside in the sun, tending to my rosebushes, planting our garden and shooting again in the happy green of spring!

For me an orchid is symbolic of newness, freshness and growth.  Back in college, I did one of my first macro photography studies on a series of orchids (all black and white film) and they followed through all the way to my senior thesis. In fact three of the prints are hanging in our house.  I think this may be why they are so dear to me…we spent a lot of time together in the dark room
Since a post needs a photo, here is a quick snap of my orchid (I figured I better capture a shot of it while it is still alive)  Even though I love them, they don’t really like me and I have the hardest time keeping them alive  hopefully, I can keep this one around for a little while.
and of course, as I was shooting, Donovan, my kitty, who loves to get in the way of the camera….decided to pose right in front of me. I figured since she was trying so hard to get her picture taken that I would give her a little blog time
So if winter has you down…just smile and remember that SPRING is on the way!
